Ravi-PillaiThiruvananthapuram, August 8: Middle East-based businessman Keralaite, Ravi Pillai said here Monday that tourism is the only viable business opportunities in Kerala and sought to join the private sector in the titanium industry.


"In Kerala land costs and wages are very high, there are also political questions as well. Today, tourism is the only viable business proposal in Kerala. Another is the titanium industry, but this is not permitted in the private sector and it must be open, "Pillai told reporters here.


Pillai has RP-the Group of companies, changes in the interest of businesses worldwide and is the largest employer of the Indians in the Middle East with almost 70000 employees, of whom 70 percent are Indians.


He has business interests in all countries of the Middle East and is a major player in the oil and gas sector.


Padma Shri and Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award winner, Pillai has two premium Super Deluxe Hotels (Kovalam and Kollam), two luxury hotels in Kozhikode and another two in Dubai.


He is building a hotel in Kozhikode and two in Dubai.


He has now branched out into exploration of the gas industry and businesses in Australia and in Mozambique in Africa, starts next month.


Within the framework of the program of corporate social responsibility of his company he sponsors a marriage more than 100 couples will be held in his hometown in Kollam 25 Aug.
