Haryana Govt. to provide 1.25 lakh affordable flats in urban areasIn order to provide affordable housing to the needy in urban areas of Haryana, the state government on Tuesday announced a new policy called Affordable Housing Policy-2013.


Under the policy, the government will grant licenses to private builders for building the dwelling units. The builders will have to be hand the affordable dwelling units over to beneficiaries within the prescribed period of four years.


The government aims to offer as many as 1.25 lakh affordable flats that will have a carpet area of around 500 square feet each in various urban areas of the state, such as Gurgaon, Panchkula, Faridabad and Pinjore and Kalka.


Announcing the time-limit, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said, "The project is required to be completed within four years from the date of approval of building plans or grant of environment clearance, whichever is later, beyond which renewal of licence will not be allowed."


In Gurgaon, Panchkula, Faridabad, Pinjore andKalka, the maximum allotment rate for the dwelling units has been fixed at Rs 4,000 per square feet. In low potential towns, the dwelling units will cost Rs 3,600 per square feet.


The Cabinet also gave green signal to Ordinance for setting up of Indira Gandhi University at Meerpur in Rewari; and Stage Carriage Scheme that aims to provide efficient road transport service throughout the state.
